Thermal Radiation Simulation Tool

Thermal Radiation Modeling for Single or Multiple Existing Flare Stacks

WHY DOES IT MATTER

Modernization Can Overload Thermal Radiation Limits

  • Modernization of existing flare header systems requires comprehensive safety analyses.
  • Adding new units or reconfiguring tie-ins to a single flare header can lead to thermal-radiation overload of the flare system.
  • A thermal-radiation assessment should be performed to quantify the impact of the modernization.
  • Physical effects from multiple sources superimpose (total ground-level radiant heat flux).
  • It is essential to evaluate simultaneous flaring events (e.g., global power failure) when flares are co-located or in close proximity.
WHAT WE OFFER

2D THERMAL RADIATION MODELING

Calculate Thermal Radiation for Existing Flare Stacks

The spatial distribution of thermal radiation can be analyzed based on user-provided inputs, including:

  • Flare and burner dimensions;
  • Fluid/stream properties;
  • Radiative fraction (fraction of heat radiated);
  • Wind velocities etc.
MULTIPLE-SOURCES THERMAL RADIATION MODELING

Multi-Flare Module

The module computes the thermal radiation impact range via superposition of thermal radiation fields from multiple sources. The algorithm accounts for radiative background and meteorological corrections due to relative humidity (atmospheric transmissivity) and wind speed, producing spatial distributions and iso-flux contours for exposure thresholds.
